#1 BREAKTHRU
I took a workshop with Aletheia Schmidt and had fun dropping, blowing, scraping, and imprinting acrylic inks on Yupo paper. We all ignored all the pressures to adhere to the principles and elements of design and did whatever we wanted. I could get very bogged down with all the things to remember when painting, such as: line, value, color, hue, intensity, texture, shape, size, direction, unity, conflict, dominance, repetition, alternation, balance, harmony, and gradation. It was very freeing to just have fun. A lot of the texture is from spritzing rubbing alcohol on the paint.
I blew the paint with a straw on #1. That's how I got the lines moving off the page. On #2 I tried making a dark cross angled on the page. My favorite part is the two tiny holes (in the circle with the red dot center) that appear to be on fire. I find it's beneficial to play and risk when painting - to find little, new things that I like and can incorporate in my realistic paintings.

I made some "posters" for Lauren and Marilyn today. I used Yupo paper and dripped color down the page, let that dry, then used a brush to paint the words.

I worked on the apple painting last evening. I'd like to have more whites in the bucket. I could scratch out some whites, or use opaque white.

I drew some daisies/lilacs today and painted the first layer of color this evening.

photos and contour drawings I did on my work break.

I wet my sketch, waited for the paper to dry a bit, then added the first layer of color. The colors bled together so I lifted out the light areas with a damp brush.
I thought it would be fun to draw during my work break on a post card size piece of paper, paint it in the evening, and then send them in the mail to unsuspecting friends and family. These ended up being too large, but I cut some more paper to the correct dimensions for tomorrow.

I've been playing with doing small watercolors of this sunflower.  I think it would make a good 'drippy' painting the way the sunflower head is down. Meaning I'd let the paint drip down the page for the yellow petals. I'll keep practicing. (the one with the white mat corners around it is the photograph I'm using)

Photo #1

Photo #1
I painted this palm tree on Yupo (plastic) paper and let it dry. It looks sloppy at this stage.

Photo #2

Photo #2
I added darker greens on branches and leaves and let that dry.

Photo #3
I started to lift out the spaces between the branches and started adding and subtracting color on the bark. This stage is fun because it can start taking shape. With as much detail as this has, there is much more to be done.
